By downloading or using Grindstep (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. The App is published by an independent iOS developer (Apple Developer Team ID ZM8LF8494F); "we," "us," and "our" refer to that developer.
Grindstep is a personal tool for home espresso enthusiasts. You log your own espresso shots — grind setting, dose, yield, shot time, taste, and optionally temperature and refractometer (TDS) readings. From your own consecutive shots the App learns, by deterministic regression, how much one step of your grinder tends to move shot time, and it suggests a grind adjustment for your next shot in your grinder's own units, showing the arithmetic it used. It also forecasts a starting setting for a new bag from your history, plots your shots on a strength-and-extraction chart, models how your dialed setting drifts as a bag ages, and computes costs — all on your device, from data you entered.
The App is free to download and use, and the free tier is meant to be complete on its own: unlimited shot logging with the built-in timer and repeat-last-shot, the directional recommendation matrix, two active bean bags, one grinder and one machine, per-bag recipes, basic stats, and all data import and export (see section 6). None of these is ever gated behind a purchase.
Pro unlocks when you complete either purchase. Two products are offered, and both unlock the identical Pro feature set:
There is no monthly product. Prices shown are USD; Apple displays the equivalent local price at purchase time.
The Annual subscription automatically renews until canceled. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before that end. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. You can manage or cancel in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iOS device. Refunds are determined solely by Apple under its published policies. The Lifetime purchase is a single charge with no recurring billing.
If you start the 7-day free trial on Annual and cancel during the trial, you keep Pro access through the end of the trial and are not charged. If you do not cancel, the subscription begins at the end of the trial at the published price.
Pro provides the following features. The behavior described here is binding on us — if a future App update materially changes any of these descriptions, we will revise this section.
Grindstep stores all of your data locally on your iPhone. There is no account, no server, and no cloud sync; nothing you enter is transmitted to us or to anyone else. Because the App does not sync, it gives you full portability instead: you may export your entire archive as versioned JSON or CSV at any time, import a Beanconqueror export or a CSV, and re-import a JSON export on another device — all free, with no lock-in. Your data is also included in an iOS Backup (iCloud Backup or Finder) when that is enabled. If you delete the App with no export and no iOS Backup, the data is permanently lost.
The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us, through Apple, in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including wasted coffee, lost data, or any brewing outcome. Recommendations and estimates are tools for your use, not guarantees.
Your use of the App is also governed by Apple's standard End User License Agreement for licensed applications, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. If these Terms conflict with the Apple EULA, these Terms govern between you and us; the Apple EULA governs between you and Apple.
Product and organization names referenced in the App or this document — including Beanconqueror, whose export format the App can import — belong to their respective holders. Grindstep is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of them; the import feature exists solely to help you bring your own data with you.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced in the App on next launch. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in courts located in California, except that either party may seek injunctive relief to protect intellectual-property rights in any court of competent jurisdiction.
