HomeschoolLog Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-04-19 · Last updated: 2026-04-19
1. Acceptance of these terms
By downloading or using HomeschoolLog (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. The App is published by an independent iOS developer (Apple Developer Team ID ZM8LF8494F); references to "we," "us," and "our" mean that developer.
2. What HomeschoolLog is — and is not
HomeschoolLog is a personal record-keeping tool for homeschool families. You enter information about your students' attendance, activities, portfolio, reading, and courses; the App helps you organize that information and generate reports for your own use, including reports formatted for state homeschool compliance filings.
HomeschoolLog is not a curriculum, an educational service, a credentialing body, or a legal service. We do not deliver lessons. We do not issue credentials, diplomas, or transcripts with legal effect. We do not communicate with any school district, evaluator, or state agency on your behalf. State compliance information is sourced from publicly available government data and is informational only. Accuracy and timeliness of any report you submit to your state is your responsibility. Consult your state's department of education for authoritative homeschool requirements.
3. Subscriptions and the Pro tier
3.1 Free tier
The App is free to download and use with the following limits: 1 student, 1 school year, up to 8 subjects, unlimited day-level attendance logging, unlimited text-only daily activity entries, the full 50-state and DC compliance reference, and a basic attendance-only PDF report.
3.2 Pro subscription
Pro features unlock when you start a Pro subscription. Two products are offered:
- Pro Annual — $19.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial for first-time subscribers.
- Pro Monthly — $2.99 per month, no trial.
Both products unlock the same set of Pro features. Prices shown are USD; Apple displays the equivalent local price at purchase time.
3.3 Auto-renewal and billing
Subscriptions automatically renew until canceled. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before that end. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. You can manage and cancel your subscription in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iOS device. Refunds for the unused portion of an active period are not offered by HomeschoolLog; refund eligibility is determined solely by Apple under its published policies.
3.4 Free trial forfeiture
If you start a free trial and cancel during the trial, you keep Pro access through the end of the trial period and are not charged. If you do not cancel, your subscription begins at the end of the trial at the published price.
4. Pro features
Pro provides the following features. The behavior described here is binding on us — if a future App update materially changes any of these descriptions, we will revise this section.
- Multiple students: Pro subscribers may add more than one student. Each student's records are stored separately and locally on-device.
- Compliance PDF reports: Generates attendance, hours, portfolio, and quarterly report PDFs on-device using state-specific templates. Templates are informational and do not constitute legal or educational advice.
- Photo portfolio: Up to 10 photos per portfolio entry, stored locally with the record. Photos are never transmitted off-device.
- Hours tracking: Optional hours and minutes per activity, summed per subject and per school year. All calculations run on-device.
- Reading log: Optional per-student record of titles, authors, genres, dates, and ratings. Stored locally.
- Multiple school years: Archived years remain read-only; their data is retained on-device for multi-year transcripts and reports.
- High school transcript: GPA is computed on an unweighted 4.0 scale using the grade-points table shown in the app. The transcript PDF is a tool for your use; acceptance by any college or institution is not guaranteed.
- Charts: Computed from local activity data using Swift Charts. No analytics events are transmitted to any server.
- Quarterly reports: Assembled from local activity entries. State-specific formats are informational; accuracy of submissions is the user's responsibility.
- Custom subjects: Unlimited user-defined subjects beyond the free-tier cap of 8. Stored locally.
- Data export: CSV and PDF files generated on-device. No record content is transmitted during export.
- Widget: Reads from local data only via App Group container. No network activity.
- Deadline reminders: Scheduled via Apple's UserNotifications framework and fire locally on-device. No remote push servers are involved.
- App lock: Uses LocalAuthentication. Biometric data never leaves Apple's Secure Enclave; the app receives only a success / failure result.
5. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for the accuracy of every attendance entry, activity description, hour count, photo, reading entry, course grade, and policy-triggered submission to your state.
- You are responsible for maintaining device backups (iCloud or iTunes) so that records survive device loss. HomeschoolLog has no remote copy of your data and cannot restore it.
- You are responsible for verifying your state's current homeschool requirements against its authoritative source; the App's bundled compliance reference is a convenience, not a substitute for the official regulations.
- You will not use the App for any purpose other than personal documentation of the education of students in your family or under your homeschool authority.
6. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us, through Apple, for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost data, missed compliance deadlines, rejected portfolio reviews, or disputes with state agencies. Reports generated by the App are tools for your use; we do not guarantee that any state agency, evaluator, or college will accept them.
7. Apple End User License Agreement
Your use of the App is also governed by Apple's standard End User License Agreement (EULA) for licensed applications, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the Apple EULA, these Terms govern as between you and us; the Apple EULA governs as between you and Apple.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced in the App on next launch. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in courts located in California, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual property rights.
