HostLog Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-05-08 · Last updated: 2026-05-08

Short version: HostLog stores your records — properties, stays, inspection photos, damage entries, communication logs, repair estimates, and receipts — on your device. iCloud sync is optional and OFF by default. No third-party cloud, no AI, no analytics. We have no servers and we never see your records. The only network communication the app performs is with Apple's StoreKit servers to verify your subscription status (and Apple's CloudKit servers, if you enable iCloud sync, to your private iCloud database).

1. Who we are

HostLog is published by an independent iOS developer (Apple Developer Team ID ZM8LF8494F). For any privacy-related question, write to captainlongevity@gmail.com.

2. Information we do not collect

We do not collect, transmit to our servers, sell, share, or analyze:

3. Information stored on your device

All record data you enter is stored locally on your iOS device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data is included in your iCloud or iTunes device backup if you have device backup enabled. We do not have access to your device backups; only Apple does, under their published privacy terms.

4. iCloud sync (optional, OFF by default)

HostLog supports optional iCloud synchronization across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac via Apple's CloudKit private database. This setting is OFF by default for HostLog because hosts are sometimes parties to chargeback disputes or litigation in which an opposing party may attempt to compel records from any cloud system, including Apple's iCloud. Keeping records device-only reduces this exposure.

When sync is ON, your records are stored in your private iCloud database, accessible only to you via your Apple ID. We have no access to this database. You can toggle sync at any time in Settings > iCloud Sync. Toggling OFF stops new syncs; previously synced records remain in your iCloud account until you delete the app from all devices linked to that Apple ID, or until you delete the data manually via Settings on iCloud.com.

Sync uses Apple's standard CloudKit privacy and encryption posture; see Apple's iCloud security documentation for details.

5. On-device processing (Pro features)

Several Pro features process data locally on your device only:

6. Subscriptions and StoreKit

HostLog offers an optional Pro subscription via Apple's StoreKit 2. When you subscribe, restore a purchase, or when the app verifies your entitlement, your device communicates directly with Apple's servers. HostLog receives only the entitlement status (active or inactive) and a purchase identifier. We do not see your Apple ID, payment method, billing address, or transaction history. Apple's handling of subscription information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

7. No platform integration

HostLog does not communicate with Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, or any rental platform's servers, ever. Platform names that appear in the app (when you tag a stay's source platform) are user-selectable tag values only — not API calls, not listing scrapers, not message readers. We do not access your platform inboxes, Resolution Center messages, payouts, calendar, listing details, or guest profiles.

8. Permissions the app requests

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings > HostLog.

9. Children's privacy

HostLog is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. The app's age rating reflects this.

10. Data retention and deletion

Because all record data is stored on your device (and optionally in your private iCloud account if you enable sync), you control retention completely. To delete all data: delete the app from your device(s); if sync was enabled, also remove HostLog data from iCloud Settings. There is no remote copy on our servers to delete — we have no servers.

11. International users

The app does not transfer your data internationally because it does not transfer your data to any servers we operate. Your records are on your device and (if you enable sync) in your private iCloud, both governed by Apple. The app is published in English and is primarily marketed in North America.

12. Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and surface the change in the app before you can use any new feature that involves the change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
