Is there a HullNote server holding my surveys?
No. There is no HullNote server. Your vessels, surveys, findings, and the photos you attach live in this app's local on-device data store on your iPhone. We cannot read them, restore them, or move them.
Where do the photos I take go?
Into the app's own on-device storage, attached to the finding you bind them to. HullNote uses your camera and photo library only when you choose to add a photo to a finding. Those images are part of your survey record on this device; HullNote does not upload them anywhere.
Do you collect analytics, crash logs, or an advertising identifier?
No. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, and no advertising identifier in the app. We do not know how often you open HullNote, which screens you visit, how many surveys you run, or whether you subscribed — except through Apple's standard, aggregate developer sales reports.
What about the owner name and valuation notes fields?
Those are optional free-text fields you may type into a survey. HullNote does not require them, does not structure or index them, does not analyze them, and does not calculate any value from them. They are stored on your device exactly as you typed them, as part of your own working notes. HullNote produces no valuation, appraisal, or insurance opinion of its own.
Do you talk to SAMS, NAMS, the Coast Guard, a class society, or any insurer?
No. HullNote makes no API calls to any surveyor association, the U.S. Coast Guard, any classification society, any insurer, or any government system. It cannot and does not submit a report, register a survey, or check a vessel on your behalf.
Does anything go to my iCloud or Apple ID?
No. HullNote does not declare the iCloud entitlement; there is no CloudKit container and no remote sync. Your records are included in your standard iOS Backups (iCloud Backup or Finder backup) when you have those enabled — that is Apple's normal backup behavior for all on-device data, not a HullNote feature.
This data is included in your standard iOS Backups when you have those enabled. We do not have access to your iOS Backups — only Apple does, under their published privacy terms. If you delete the app without an iOS Backup, its records are removed with it, and there is no remote copy for us to restore. There is no in-app account, sync, or bulk export feature; the way to take a survey out of the app is to generate its PDF and share it.
HullNote offers an optional Pro tier (monthly and annual subscriptions and a one-time Lifetime purchase) via Apple's StoreKit 2. When you subscribe, restore a purchase, or when the app verifies your entitlement, your device communicates directly with Apple's servers. HullNote receives only the entitlement status (active or inactive) and a purchase identifier. We do not see your Apple Account, payment method, billing address, or transaction history. Apple's handling of subscription information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
You can revoke either permission at any time in iOS Settings > HullNote, and the rest of the app keeps working. HullNote requests no microphone, no location, no HealthKit, no contacts, and no calendar permission.
HullNote is a report-writing and photo-organizing tool for marine surveyors. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to SAMS, NAMS, the U.S. Coast Guard, any classification society, or any insurer. It uses no official logo or mark, implies no certification or endorsement, issues no certificate, sets no survey standard, and produces no valuation, appraisal, or insurance opinion. Every professional judgment in a report is supplied by the surveyor, and HullNote provides no guarantee that a report will satisfy a client, a bank, an underwriter, or a court.
HullNote is a professional tool intended for adults who conduct or commission marine surveys. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Because all data is stored only on your device, you control retention completely. To delete all HullNote data, delete the app (and remove it from any iOS Backups you have saved). There is no remote copy for us to delete.
HullNote is published in English and marketed in the United States. The app does not transfer your data internationally because it does not transfer your data anywhere.
If a future release ever changes how the app handles data — for example, if a later version ever introduces any sync, analytics, or third-party integration — we will update this policy and surface the change in the app before that feature becomes available. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
