Whitescribe Terms of Service

Effective date: 2026-06-23 · Last updated: 2026-06-23

1. Acceptance

By downloading or using Whitescribe (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. The App is published by an independent iOS developer (Apple Developer Team ID ZM8LF8494F); "we," "us," and "our" mean that developer.

2. What Whitescribe is — and what it is not

Whitescribe is a personal record-keeping and reference tool for a college student documenting an academic-integrity matter — most often after being flagged by an AI-detection tool. You enter information about your own case and your own writing process. The App organizes that information, moves a case through a hearing-stage state machine with deadlines, lets you record writing-process evidence and a communication log, shows publicly available per-school academic-integrity procedure content, optionally lets you attach your own photos, and generates an Academic Integrity Defense PDF for your own use.

Whitescribe is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any school, university, or academic institution; any AI-detection company (Turnitin, GPTZero, Copyleaks, and the like); or any legal service. It handles academic-integrity matters only and does not handle Title IX or sexual-misconduct matters. The App does not provide legal advice, does not determine whether an accusation is true or false, does not predict a hearing outcome, and does not write your appeal. You must navigate your school's official process yourself, and you should consult your school's student ombudsman, academic advisor, dean of students, FIRE, or student legal services for help.

3. Purchases and the Pro tier

3.1 Free tier

The App is free to download and use, with the following scope: create and edit a case and move it through the full hearing-stage state machine with deadlines; record up to 10 writing-evidence items; keep a communication log; and browse the per-school academic-integrity procedure reference, appeal rights, and free academic-support alternatives. App Lock is included free for all users.

3.2 Pro tier

Pro features unlock when you start the Pro subscription or complete the Case Pack purchase. Two products are offered:

Both products unlock the identical Pro feature set. Prices shown are USD; Apple displays the equivalent local price at purchase time.

3.3 Auto-renewal and billing (Monthly only)

The Monthly subscription automatically renews until canceled. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before that end. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. You can manage and cancel your subscription in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iOS device. Refunds for the unused portion of an active period are not offered by us; refund eligibility is determined solely by Apple under its published policies. The Case Pack is a single charge with no recurring billing.

4. Pro features

Pro provides the following features. The behavior described here is binding on us — if a future App update materially changes any of these descriptions, we will revise this section.

4.1 App Lock (Free)

App Lock is a Free feature that uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework (Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode) to gate access to the App. Biometric data never leaves Apple's Secure Enclave; the App receives only a success/failure result. App Lock can be enabled or disabled in Settings > Privacy at any time.

5. Your responsibilities

6. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us, through Apple, for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost data, missed deadlines, hearing outcomes, disciplinary outcomes, academic consequences, or any other result. Reference content is a tool for your use; we do not guarantee that any school, committee, or hearing body will accept or be bound by anything produced with the App.

7. Apple End User License Agreement

Your use of the App is also governed by Apple's standard End User License Agreement (EULA) for licensed applications, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the Apple EULA, these Terms govern as between you and us; the Apple EULA governs as between you and Apple.

8. Trademarks

All school, institution, and company names referenced in the App and in this document — including but not limited to AI-detection companies such as Turnitin, GPTZero, and Copyleaks, and any university or academic-integrity office — belong to their respective holders. Whitescribe is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any listed entity.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced in the App on next launch. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in courts located in California, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual property rights.
