DebtShield Terms of Service

Effective date: 2026-05-05 · Last updated: 2026-05-05

1. Acceptance of these terms

By downloading or using DebtShield (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. The App is published by an independent iOS developer (Apple Developer Team ID ZM8LF8494F); references to "we," "us," and "our" mean that developer.

2. What DebtShield is — and is not

DebtShield is a personal evidence journal for documenting contacts from debt collectors. You enter information about debts, collection calls, letters, and third-party contacts; the App helps you organize that information, surface FDCPA-relevant patterns, and generate PDF reports for your own use, including reports formatted for CFPB complaints and consumer rights attorneys.

DebtShield is not legal advice, debt-settlement, debt-negotiation, or a connected service. We do not provide legal advice. We do not contact creditors or collectors on your behalf. We do not negotiate, settle, or pay debts. We do not appraise debts. The 17-item FDCPA violation checklist, the 30-day validation response deadline, the 7-calls-in-7-days harassment threshold, and the $1,000-per-violation statutory damages figure used in the App are quotations of the published Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (15 U.S.C. Sec. 1692 et seq.) and CFPB Regulation F. Whether any specific contact or pattern violates the FDCPA in your jurisdiction is for you and a licensed attorney to determine. The Consumer Rights Guide content is informational and derives from FTC.gov and CFPB.gov public-domain materials.

3. Subscriptions and the Pro tier

3.1 Free tier

The App is free to download and use with the following limits: 1 debt and 1 collector, up to 10 call log entries, 1 photo per call entry, the full 17-violation FDCPA checklist as a learning reference, and the full Consumer Rights Guide.

3.2 Pro subscription

Pro features unlock when you start a Pro subscription. Two products are offered:

Both products unlock the same set of Pro features. Prices shown are USD; Apple displays the equivalent local price at purchase time.

3.3 Auto-renewal and billing

Subscriptions automatically renew until canceled. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the end of the current period unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before that end. Payment is charged to your Apple ID. You can manage and cancel your subscription in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iOS device. Refunds for the unused portion of an active period are not offered by DebtShield; refund eligibility is determined solely by Apple under its published policies.

3.4 Free trial forfeiture

If you start a free trial and cancel during the trial, you keep Pro access through the end of the trial period and are not charged. If you do not cancel, your subscription begins at the end of the trial at the published price.

3.5 Cloud storage (optional iCloud sync)

DebtShield can optionally replicate your records to your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit private database. iCloud sync is OFF by default and only takes effect after you opt in (during onboarding or in Settings > Sync). When sync is enabled, we have no access to the records — Apple's CloudKit private database is between you and your Apple ID. Apple's terms govern your use of iCloud and your relationship with Apple as the storage provider; iCloud-stored content may be subject to legal process directed at Apple, which is why the in-app onboarding screen describes the trade-off before you opt in. Records deleted inside the app remain in a 30-day "Recently Deleted" recovery window before being permanently removed across all your synced devices.

4. Pro features

Pro provides the following features. The behavior described here is binding on us — if a future App update materially changes any of these descriptions, we will revise this section.

The Pro Evidence tab additionally includes a Swift Charts visualization of call frequency and violations over the trailing 12 weeks, and CSV export of the call log and the (call, violation) pair list. Both are computed and rendered on-device; no content is transmitted during export.

The following features ship in every tier (Free + Pro), are not part of the Pro upgrade, and are listed here for completeness:

5. Your responsibilities

6. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us, through Apple, for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost data, lost legal recoveries, or claim disputes. Reports generated by the App are tools for your use; we do not guarantee that any agency, court, or attorney will accept them.

7. Apple End User License Agreement

Your use of the App is also governed by Apple's standard End User License Agreement (EULA) for licensed applications, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the Apple EULA, these Terms govern as between you and us; the Apple EULA governs as between you and Apple.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced in the App on next launch. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in courts located in California, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual property rights.
