Quench is built by an independent iOS developer (Apple Developer Team ID ZM8LF8494F). You can reach us anytime at captainlongevity@gmail.com.
Where do my shop, steels, and batches live?
On your iPhone, in this app's local on-device store, and nowhere else. We never receive them. There is no cloud account behind Quench, so there is nothing on our side to read, lose, or hand to anyone.
Does Quench sync to iCloud?
No. Quench declares no iCloud entitlement and performs no sync. Your data is included in your normal iOS Backups (iCloud Backup or Finder/iTunes) when you have those turned on — that is Apple's standard backup behavior for on-device data, not a Quench feature.
The app can attach blade photos. Where do my photos go?
On the Pro tier, Quench can attach photos to a batch — either captured with the camera or picked from your own photos. Those photos are saved inside the app's own local storage on your iPhone, as part of the batch they belong to. They are for your reference only. They are never uploaded, never sent to us, and never sent anywhere. A photo is added only at the moment you tap to attach one to a batch.
Does Quench read my Photo Library?
No. To pick an existing photo, Quench uses Apple's system photo picker, which runs outside the app: the app does not request Photo Library access, never shows a Photo Library permission prompt, and receives only the specific photos you choose.
Do you collect analytics, crash logs, or an advertising identifier?
No. There is no analytics framework, no crash reporter, and no advertising identifier in the app. We cannot tell how often you open it, which steels you use, how many batches you log, or whether you subscribed — beyond Apple's standard aggregate sales reports.
Where do the steel numbers come from — and is my data sent anywhere to generate a schedule?
Every schedule is computed entirely on your device by a rule-based engine. Nothing about your steel, thickness, target hardness, or shop is transmitted to generate it. The steel corpus — temperatures, times, media, and temper curves compiled from publicly available manufacturer datasheets and references, with a source list per steel — is bundled inside the app and updated through ordinary App Store releases. The app makes no API call to any external system to build a schedule.
All of this is covered by your iOS Backups when enabled. We hold no copy. If you delete Quench without an iOS Backup available, the records and attached photos cannot be recovered — there is no remote copy to restore from.
aps-environment entitlement.Quench offers an optional Pro tier (a one-time Lifetime purchase and Yearly/Monthly subscriptions) through Apple's StoreKit 2. When you purchase, restore, or when the app checks your entitlement, your device talks directly to Apple. Quench receives only the entitlement status and a purchase identifier — never your Apple ID, payment method, or billing details. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Revoke either anytime in iOS Settings > Quench. The app requests no Photo Library, microphone, location, contacts, or HealthKit access.
Quench is a personal shop tool for knifemakers. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any steel manufacturer, standards body, or researcher, and it uses no third party's proprietary test data, charts, or ratings. It schedules; it does not certify an outcome or guarantee a result, and it sells or facilitates the sale of nothing. Every schedule carries a reminder to verify against your steel supplier's current datasheet.
Quench is a tool for adult hobbyists and tradespeople. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Because everything lives only on your device, you are in full control. To remove all Quench data, delete the app (and remove it from any iOS Backups you have saved). There is no remote copy for us to delete.
Quench is published in English and offered primarily in the United States; its reference content draws on international manufacturer datasheets but the app moves your data nowhere, so there is no international transfer to describe.
If a future release ever changes how the app handles data — for example if a later version introduced any sync, analytics, or third-party integration — we will update this policy and surface the change in the app before that feature ships. The date above reflects the latest revision.
