Is there a Smokeplan server holding my cooks?
No. There is no Smokeplan server. Your smokers, cook plans, live-cook sessions, journal entries, calibration, and photos live in this app's local SwiftData store on your iPhone. We cannot read them, restore them, or move them.
Does Smokeplan sync to iCloud?
No. Smokeplan does not declare the iCloud entitlement; there is no CloudKit container and no cross-device sync. Your data is included in your standard iOS Backups (iCloud Backup or Finder/iTunes backup) when those are enabled — that is Apple's normal backup behavior for all on-device data, not a Smokeplan feature.
Where do my cook photos go?
They stay on your device. When you attach a photo to a journal cook, Smokeplan stores it in the app's local storage on your iPhone (downscaled). Photos are never uploaded. The one image the app can create is a share card you choose to generate; it is built on demand and handed to the iOS Share Sheet, then sent only wherever you choose to send it.
Do you collect analytics, crash logs, or an advertising identifier?
No. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, and no advertising identifier in the app. We do not know how often you open it, which screens you visit, how many cooks you plan, or whether you purchased Pro — except through Apple's standard, aggregate developer sales reports.
How does Smokeplan forecast times, fit the live ETA, and learn my smoker?
Entirely on your iPhone, with deterministic, rule-based math. The app estimates cook duration from the cut, weight, pit temperature, wrap, and target you enter; it fits a live time-remaining estimate from the internal-temperature waypoints you log; and it computes a personal per-cut multiplier from your completed cooks. The coefficients it starts from are community-standard values bundled with the app and shown to you as editable starting points. Nothing about any of this calculation is sent anywhere.
Does Smokeplan use any AI service, or talk to any grill or thermometer maker?
No. The forecasting, live ETA, stall model, and calibration are on-device rule-based calculations. Smokeplan makes no API calls to any grill, smoker, or thermometer manufacturer, any recipe service, or any government system. It has no Bluetooth or hardware integration.
This data is included in your standard iOS Backups when you have those enabled. We do not have access to your iOS Backups — only Apple does, under their published privacy terms. If you delete the app without an iOS Backup, your data is permanently lost. There is no in-app data export, import, or backup feature beyond generating a share card you choose to send.
aps-environment entitlement.Smokeplan offers an optional Pro tier (an annual subscription, a monthly subscription, and a one-time Lifetime purchase) via Apple's StoreKit 2. When you purchase, restore, or when the app verifies your entitlement, your device communicates directly with Apple's servers. Smokeplan receives only the entitlement status (active or inactive) and a purchase identifier. We do not see your Apple ID, payment method, billing address, or transaction history. Apple's handling of purchase information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
You can revoke any permission at any time in iOS Settings > Smokeplan. Smokeplan requests no camera, no microphone, no location, no HealthKit, no Bluetooth, and no contacts permission.
Smokeplan is a personal planning and recordkeeping tool for backyard barbecue. It plans a cook schedule; it never declares that food is done or safe to eat — doneness is your own thermometer and probe feel. USDA safe-minimum internal temperatures and thaw and hold figures are shown as cited, publicly available guidance; the app makes no doneness or food-safety verdict. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any grill, smoker, or thermometer manufacturer, and it ships no recipes.
Smokeplan is a hobby tool intended for adults cooking barbecue. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Because all data is stored only on your device, you control retention completely. To delete all Smokeplan data, delete the app (and remove it from any iOS Backups you have saved). There is no remote copy for us to delete.
Smokeplan is published in English and marketed in the United States. The bundled reference figures (USDA safe minimums, thaw and hold guidance) are U.S.-specific. The app does not transfer your data internationally because it does not transfer your data anywhere.
If a future release ever changes how the app handles data — for example, if a later version ever introduces any sync, analytics, or third-party integration — we will update this policy and surface the change in the app before that feature becomes available. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
