Wheelwright Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-07-11 · Last updated: 2026-07-11

The short version. Every wheel you calculate, build, and tension in Wheelwright lives on your iPhone and nowhere else. There is no Wheelwright account and no Wheelwright server. The app makes no network calls except when Apple's StoreKit checks whether your Pro purchase is active. We cannot see your builds, your components, or your tension readings.

Who makes Wheelwright

Wheelwright is published by an independent iOS developer (Apple Developer Team ID ZM8LF8494F). Privacy questions go to captainlongevity@gmail.com.

Where your data lives

Is there a Wheelwright server holding my builds?

No. Your components, calculations, build records, tension sessions, tool-calibration curves, and photos live in this app's local on-device store (SwiftData). There is no cloud database and no remote sync. We cannot read, restore, or move your data.

What exactly is stored on my device?

This data is included in your standard iOS Backups (iCloud Backup or Finder) when you have those enabled — that is Apple's normal behavior for all on-device data, not a Wheelwright feature. We have no access to those backups; only Apple does, under their published terms. If you delete the app without a backup, the data is permanently gone.

Do you collect analytics, crash logs, or an advertising identifier?

No. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, and no advertising identifier. We do not know how often you open the app, which screens you use, how many wheels you build, or whether you subscribed — except through Apple's standard, aggregate sales reports.

Where do the component figures and the math come from?

Wheelwright bundles no component database; the hub and rim components are the ones you save yourself. Every spoke-length and tension calculation runs on your iPhone with deterministic, rule-based math. Nothing about a calculation is sent anywhere. Wheelwright bundles no third-party calculator databases and no third-party tensiometer conversion charts.

On-device features that use system frameworks

Subscriptions and StoreKit

Wheelwright offers an optional Pro tier (a one-time Lifetime purchase, plus annual and monthly subscriptions) via Apple's StoreKit 2. When you buy, restore, or when the app verifies your entitlement, your device talks directly to Apple's servers. Wheelwright receives only your entitlement status (active or inactive) and a purchase identifier. We never see your Apple ID, payment method, billing address, or transaction history. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Permissions the app requests

You can revoke any of these at any time in iOS Settings > Wheelwright. The app requests no location, no microphone, no Bluetooth, no contacts, and no HealthKit access.

What Wheelwright is not

Wheelwright is a calculator and record keeper for bicycle wheelbuilding. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any component manufacturer or tool maker. It certifies no wheel's strength or safety and provides no warranty. The component figures are the ones you save; a value you measure overrides any saved or entered value. Every result carries the line "verify critical dimensions by measurement before cutting spokes." The caliper has the final say.

Children's privacy

Wheelwright is a hobby and trade tool intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children — because we collect nothing.

Data retention and deletion

Because all data is stored only on your device, you control retention completely. To delete everything, delete the app (and remove it from any iOS Backups you have saved). There is no remote copy for us to delete.

Regional scope

Wheelwright is published in English and marketed in the United States. It does not transfer your data internationally because it does not transfer your data anywhere.

Changes to this policy

If a future release ever changes how the app handles data — for example, if a later version ever introduces any sync, analytics, or third-party integration — we will update this policy and surface the change in the app before that feature becomes available. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
